2020 Riedel Riesling Master Class – Hidden Secrets
The 2021 Riedel Riesling Master Class will feature two sessions:
Rieslings of Cenral Otago – Cameron Douglas MS, will present Rieslings from the New Zealand region of Central Otago. Block mountain systems with spectaular scenery, schisty soils, dry climate, high sunshine and cold winters all characterise this most magic of wine regions. Cameron will explain the region and how its geography determines the terroir.
As a professional Sommelier (the first MS in the Southern Hemisphere), Cameron spends much of his time involved in education – academically in charge of the Wine and Beverage Program at AUT University in Auckland. He is Patron of the New Zealand Sommeliers and Wine Professionals Association; has served on the Board of Directors for the Court of Master Sommeliers Americas, and is committed to being an instructor and examiner for the MS program both in the USA and Oceania.
Rieslings of the Alsace – Anne Krebiehl MW, Wine Writer will present the Rieslings of Alsace – Situated in the lee of the forested Vosges mountains the “other Rhine Region”, the most German of French wine regions, Alsace produces steely dry Rieslings. With a wine making history that dates to some of Europe’s earliest plantings, Alsace is one of the great, under-appreciated treasures of the wine world -Jancis Robinson
German-born but London-based, Anne Krebiehl MW is a freelance wine writer and lecturer. She is the contributing editor for Austria, Alsace and England for the US Wine Enthusiast and also writes for trade and consumer wine publications – The World of Fine Wine, Decanter, The Buyer, Falstaff, and Vinum. She lectures, consults and judges at international wine competitions and is a panel chair at the International Wine Challenge. Admitted to the Institute of Masters of Wine in September 2014, Anne has helped to harvest and make wine in New Zealand, Germany and Italy. Her first book, The Wines of Germany, was published in late 2019.
